Christopher Ward has carved a niche for itself with a blend of heritage, craftsmanship, modern appeal, all whilst consistently offering great value for money. One of their latest offerings, “The Twelve” 36mm in Glacier Blue, is a testament to this blend. An integrated bracelet sports watch with a nod to the 1970s, this model is a real head-turner, not just for its looks but for its engineering and attention to detail.

Design and Aesthetics

First off, the Glacier Blue dial is an absolute showstopper. It’s defined, classy, and has that intriguing quality that keeps you glancing at your wrist throughout the day. The trend of offering various dial colours is something I’m all for, and Christopher Ward has nailed it with this one. While there are other colour options, the Glacier Blue stands out for its unique charm.

The watch’s case is a neat 36mm in diameter, just under 10mm in height, and has a lug-to-lug length of 40.8mm. These dimensions ensure a comfy fit, especially for those who prefer something a bit more discreet. I was initially leaning towards the 40mm version, but my growing preference for smaller watches—thanks to the comfy fit of my Omega Planet Ocean 39.5mm—led me to choose the 36mm. I have no regrets. It feels incredibly comfortable on my 7-inch wrist, lightweight, and perfect for all-day wear.

Wearability and Comfort

One of the highlights of “The Twelve” is how easy it is to wear. The slim profile, under 10mm, means it slides easily under a cuff—perfect for those who often wear dress shirts. The screw-in crown, adorned with the twin-flags motif and flanked by subtle but effective crown guards, adds to the watch’s robust yet elegant profile.

The twelve-sided bezel with its scalloped look is another unique feature. It not only adds a bit of flair but also enhances the overall refined look of the timepiece.

The integrated bracelet, made from marine-grade stainless steel, is a masterpiece. It tapers nicely and is secured by a concealed butterfly clasp, which is both practical and stylish. The bracelet’s finishing is top-notch, with brushed surfaces complemented by polished edges. The underside is rounded and brushed, making it soft and comfortable on the wrist. This level of detail is what sets Christopher Ward apart.

Movement and Performance

Inside “The Twelve” is the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. This 26-jewel movement runs at a frequency of 4Hz, translating to a smooth eight ticks per second. It offers a 38-hour power reserve and an in-built anti-shock system, ensuring accuracy even when subjected to sudden movements. The exhibition caseback reveals the movement, with the rotor being the only mention of the brand’s name, adorned with the twin-flags pattern—a nice touch.

One design choice I particularly appreciate is the lack of a date window. It keeps the dial clean and simple, letting the beauty of the Glacier Blue and the delicate twin-flags pattern shine. The dial elements, including the logo, hour markers, and hands, are impeccably finished, showcasing the craftsmanship that Christopher Ward is known for.

Functionality and Features

The hands and indexes are filled with Super-LumiNova® Grade X1 BL C1, providing a decent glow in the dark. While not groundbreaking, it’s enough for most situations. The screw-in caseback, with a twelve-sided surround echoing the bezel shape, adds to the watch’s cohesive and thoughtful design.

A recent development in Christopher Ward’s design philosophy is the shift from their full logo to the applied twin-flags logo on the dial. This subtle change enhances the watch’s visual appeal and aligns with the minimalist branding trend. The logo’s quality and precision are a testament to the brand’s commitment to excellence.

Conclusion

To sum it up, the 36mm “The Twelve” by Christopher Ward in Glacier Blue is a refined and thoughtfully designed watch. Its perfect sizing and superb craftsmanship make it a standout in the brand’s lineup. From the intricate finishing of the integrated bracelet to the delicate pattern on the dial, every aspect of this watch speaks to meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of what makes a timepiece truly special.

For anyone looking for a blend of vintage charm and modern elegance, “The Twelve” is a compelling choice. It’s not just a watch; it’s a statement of style, sophistication, and quality. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or new to the world of watches, this timepiece is sure to impress.

I’ve done my best to capture the essence of “The Twelve” and underscores why it’s one of Christopher Ward’s most accomplished watches to date. If you’re considering adding a versatile, elegant, and exquisitely crafted timepiece to your collection, the 36mm “The Twelve” in Glacier Blue should be at the top of your list.

In the world of horology, where craftsmanship meets art, Monarte Watches has been a shining beacon since its inception in 2018. The name “Monarte” is a fusion of two Latin words – “mono,” meaning only or single, and “artus,” meaning art. The combination forms the essence of the brand, translating to “Pure art.” Monarte Watches stands by the slogan, “Complexity crafted elegantly simple,” a testament to their commitment to intricate details and exceptional craftsmanship presented in a beautifully simplistic manner.

Crafting Timepieces with a Story

Every component of a Monarte watch has a unique story and purpose behind its creation. The brand aspires to merge the realms of art and horology, celebrating the exceptional work of Swiss watchmakers in a traditional manner. The dials of Monarte watches are a canvas of unique patterns, meticulously hand-operated to create a masterpiece. However, the artistry doesn’t stop there; each dial conceals a hidden meaning and writing.

For instance, the Monarte Squid Green features a hand-operated guilloche dial with a water drop wave-pattern. Encircling the dial is a discreet Latin inscription, “Tempus arsque coniuctae,” translating to “Time and art combined.” This attention to detail and hidden symbolism adds a layer of depth to each Monarte timepiece.

Exploring the Depths with the Monarte Squid

On March 12th, 2024, Monarte Watches is set to unveil its newest creation, the Monarte Squid. Inspired by the mysterious and legendary sea creature, the Squid pays homage to the giant serpent-like sea-creatures, with tales dating back to ancient times and the notorious Kraken.

Monarte envisions squids as magnificent and complex creatures that have existed in the deepest parts of the oceans for centuries, embodying the unknown and unexplored aspects of the ocean. The Squid timepiece combines the rugged, desolate nature of the deep sea with pure class and orderliness, encapsulating the essence of Monarte.

Sherpa Watches, the innovative independent brand, is set to launch an exciting addition to its collection this December. Teaming up with The Real Time Show (TRTS), an influential industry insider podcast hosted by Alon Ben Joseph and Rob Nudds, Sherpa Watches introduces a sandblasted stainless steel version of its OPS model. After the successful release of its Ultradive and OPS models last summer, this latest edition showcases a sleek matte-finish stainless steel exterior, a departure from the traditional black DLC OPS. The satin blast finish not only transforms the watch’s aesthetics but also introduces a fresh and sophisticated look.

A Smooth Satin Sandblasted Finish

In a departure from the original OPS model (reference 001/02/01), the new OPS (reference 001/01/01) boasts an uncoated stainless steel exterior, meticulously satin blasted for the first time. This unique surface finish imparts a well-balanced character to the watch. Depending on the lighting, it oscillates between a rugged tool with exceptional technology and build quality and an ethereal masterpiece, thanks to the interplay of light on its matte metal surfaces and sapphire box crystal.

Discreet TRTS Marking

Maintaining the discreet charm of the original OPS design, Sherpa Watches and The Real Time Show opted for a subtle collaboration marking. The TRTS initials are subtly engraved into the chestplate of the traditional diver’s helmet adorning the case back. Paying homage to EPSA, the vintage dive helmet serves as the company logo and symbolizes Sherpa’s commitment to reviving vintage models and technologies for a modern audience.

Partnering with The Real Time Show

The Real Time Show, a bi-weekly podcast offering an insider’s perspective on the watch industry, is hosted by Alon Ben Joseph and Rob Nudds. Known as the “insider’s insider” podcast, TRTS invites industry leaders to share their insights. The collaboration between Sherpa Watches and TRTS was conceived when hosts Alon and Rob, individually captivated by Martin Klocke’s watches, suggested combining the black OPS dial with a blasted steel case. This collaboration marks the first anniversary of The Real Time Show and sets a new standard for enduring partnerships in an industry often plagued by short-term collaborations.

Launch and Sales Concept

The Sherpa × TRTS OPS model is available for order now on the official website www.sherpawatches.com or by sending an email inquiry to info@sherpawatches.com. Embracing a business model designed to counter the prevailing FOMO culture in watch collecting, this collaboration is a core collection piece, destined to remain in the catalogue indefinitely.

High-Quality Compressor Watch

Maintaining the specifications of its predecessors, the Sherpa × TRTS OPS continues the legacy of the Ultradive and OPS models. Sherpa Watches founder and CEO, Martin Klocke, delved into decades-old Swiss archives to infuse modern design with vintage charm. The watch features the renowned waterproof case with bayonet compressor back closure (EPSA-STOP) and twin compressor crowns (MONOFLEX), originally designed by Ervin Piquerez SA (EPSA). Sherpa’s commitment to excellence is reflected in the ISO 6425 certification to 200m, ensuring accuracy, water resistance, and durability.

Good Vibes: Mantramatic Movement

At the heart of all Sherpa models lies a distinctive feature — the Mantramatic movement. Laser engraved with the Tibetan Buddhist mantra OM MANI PEME HUNG on two wheels, the movement exudes vibes of love, wisdom, and compassion. Following Himalayan Buddhist tradition, the gears rotate constantly, emitting positive energy from the wrist into the world, subtly impacting the wearer.

Giving Back

Sherpa Watches, true to its name, embraces a philosophy of giving back. A percentage of each watch sale will be donated to support projects in the Sherpa region of Nepal. The initial focus is on “Sagarmatha next” in the Khumbu region and the “Nepal Himalaya Sherpa Foundation” in Kathmandu, aligning with Sherpa’s commitment to making a positive impact in the communities that inspire its name.

Available with Various Rubber Strap Colors

Customers can personalize their Sherpa × TRTS OPS with a choice of rubber strap colors. The brand’s tropic straps are available in black, olive green, off-white, and orange, each accompanied by a custom-made clasp adorned with the Sherpa wordmark.

In conclusion, the Sherpa × TRTS OPS collaboration stands as a testament to enduring partnerships in the watch industry, challenging the transient nature of collaborations and fostering a deeper connection with collectors. With its timeless design, cutting-edge technology, and commitment to social responsibility, Sherpa Watches continues to redefine the landscape of horology, inviting enthusiasts to embark on a journey through time with style and purpose. Order your Sherpa × TRTS OPS now and become part of a legacy that transcends trends and stands the test of time.

Christopher Ward, the renowned watchmaker, has once again graced the horology world with their latest timekeeping marvel, the C1 Moonphase. Building upon the success of its predecessors, the 2015 C9 Moonphase and 2019’s C1 Moonglow, this timepiece seamlessly melds innovation with classic design, creating an alluring symphony of art and precision.

At first glance, the C1 Moonphase’s dial, crafted from aventurine—a glass infused with reflective flakes of copper oxide—draws you into its mesmerizing celestial display. Each piece of aventurine being unique, every watch becomes an individual masterpiece. The starry night sky effect, a result of the reflective copper oxide, grants the dial an ethereal quality that is simply breathtaking. Capturing the shimmering stars at varying angles, the dial is the heart of this timepiece, outshining everything else.

The decision to strip the dial of unnecessary embellishments, including the logo, directs your attention to the elegant handset and the oversized, perpetually moving moon. Notably, the highly polished and meticulously crafted hands complement the watch’s overall aesthetic, creating a captivating visual allure that is hard to resist.

A standout feature of the C1 Moonphase is its Globolight moons, which rotate on an aventurine disc. These moons, coated with a four-color print of the actual moon, present a three-dimensional appearance with enhanced accuracy. Unlike its predecessor, the C1 Moonglow, the C1 Moonphase emits a pure white glow in the dark, owing to its ceramic and Super-LumiNova composition.

Behind this celestial spectacle lies the genius of Calibre JJ04, an in-house modular movement, seamlessly linking the moon’s phase to the hour hand. With a power reserve that can faithfully track the moon’s phase for an astonishing 128 years, the craftsmanship of the JJ04 movement is an ode to the magic of traditional mechanical watchmaking. Advancing the position of the moon is as simple as pulling the crown out to the first position and rotating it counterclockwise.

Christopher Ward’s attention to detail extends to the watch’s construction as well. The inclusion of a box-sapphire crystal, coated on both sides with an anti-reflective layer, ensures unparalleled clarity and visibility, elevating the wearer’s experience to new heights.

On the wrist, the smooth leather strap, equipped with a quick-release system, offers an understated yet refined touch. The suppleness of the leather and the seamless functionality of the Bader clasp contribute to an overall luxurious wearing experience. However, the buckle’s design may result in a slight top-hang on the wrist, a minor but noticeable detail.

Crafted with a 40.5mm case featuring a seamless blend of brushed and polished surfaces, the C1 Moonphase exudes a level of finishing comparable to renowned luxury brands. The well-proportioned crown with a simple yet effective grip and the deeply embossed twin flags motif add a touch of sophistication and elegance.

Considering the price, one might question whether the adoption of the Sellita SW288-1 could have reduced the cost compared to the custom JJ04 module. Nevertheless, when juxtaposed with its contemporaries like the Farer Moonphase, retailing at a comparable price, the value proposition of the C1 Moonphase becomes evident. In comparison to other moonphase watches, such as the Meistersinger Lunascope, priced at more than double, the C1 Moonphase provides exceptional value for money, showcasing Christopher Ward’s commitment to delivering a superior timepiece.

In terms of specifications, the C1 Moonphase impresses with a 40.5mm diameter, 13.3mm height, 47.9mm lug-to-lug, and a lightweight 67g build. The Sellita SW200-1 movement with the JJ04 module speaks volumes about the craftsmanship and functionality of this masterpiece. With a power reserve of 38 hours, 26 jewels, and a tolerance of -20/+20 seconds per day, the C1 Moonphase ensures reliability and precision for the discerning wearer.

Retailing at £2,120/$2,475/€2,655 on a bracelet and £1,995/$2,325/€2,495 on a leather strap, the Christopher Ward C1 Moonphase undoubtedly represents a new pinnacle in the brand’s commitment to excellence and innovation. With its celestial charm, meticulous craftsmanship, and exceptional value for money, the C1 Moonphase stands as a testament to Christopher Ward’s unwavering dedication to the art of watchmaking. Whether you’re an ardent collector or a discerning enthusiast, the C1 Moonphase promises to be a timeless addition to any watch connoisseur’s collection.

Brace yourselves, because Laco, the legendary watch wizard from Pforzheim, Germany, is back with some sea-riously awesome news. You know them for their excellent pilot watches, but now they’re unleashing a wave of maritime charm with the reissue of their Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven navy watches. And they’re not just offering the same old sizes – there are new, smaller ones too. Inspired by those classic pocket watches from the 1940s, these new treasures are like a time machine to vintage elegance.

Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven aren’t just watches; they’re a toast to maritime history and the age-old art of watchmaking. The bigger versions (42.5 mm in diameter) used to be part of Laco’s collection until last year when they made way for something exciting. But guess what? The demand for these beauties never sank, and watch enthusiasts worldwide have been counting down the days for their big return.

Hold on to your ship’s wheel, because there’s more. Laco is introducing two watches with a smaller case diameter of 39mm. So now you can have all that vintage charm, in a more compact package. As for the dials – Bremerhaven rocks a bold black, while Cuxhaven goes for a glossy white. Both sizes dazzle with hands, numerals, and indices coated in Superluminova C3 for those late-night adventures. The Bremerhaven’s hour and minute hands are painted black, while the Cuxhaven’s hands are thermally blued, adding that extra oomph.

They also feature a small seconds window at 6 o’clock and a railroad-style minute track, all inspired by the classics. These watches don’t just look pretty; they’re precise too. The bigger models (42.5 mm) house a rare hand-wound ETA Unitas 6498.1 movement, while the smaller versions pack a Swiss-made Sellita SW261 movement. All of them sport tough sapphire crystal and a see-through back, so you can admire the exquisite craftsmanship inside. The Cuxhaven flaunts a beige calfskin leather strap that gets better with time, while the Bremerhaven comes with a sleek black leather strap that’s as timeless as the night sky.

Laco says; “With these new Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven timepieces, watch lovers can flaunt the fascinating history of maritime culture on their wrist. Each of these special watches is marked by Laco’s renowned quality and incomparable attention to detail”.

In a nutshell, these watches are the perfect blend of functionality and timeless elegance. Want to snag one for yourself? You can get your hands on them at Laco and authorized Laco retailers. The smaller, 39mm versions will set you back €1,290 (available from November), and the larger, 42.5mm ones can be yours for €1,690 (available from October).

So, if you’re ready to set sail on a nautical adventure without leaving your wrist behind, Laco’s got your back. It’s anchors aweigh with style!

PerpetuaL Watches has earned a well-deserved reputation for delivering exceptional timepieces that offer unbeatable value for money. As a longtime fan of their offerings, I have consistently recommended PerpetuaL Watches to anyone seeking an affordable yet beautifully crafted timepiece. Today, we delve into the PerpetuaL Chronograph C-08 to see if it lives up to the brand’s stellar track record.

Design and Dial

The PerpetuaL Chronograph C-08 immediately catches the eye with its deep blue dial adorned with a mesmerizing waffle texture. This intricate pattern adds a touch of uniqueness and sophistication to the watch, setting it apart from the crowd. The dial is further elevated by steel applied Roman numeral hour markers and Breguet-style steel hands, both exuding a timeless elegance.

At 3 o’clock, a 30-minute register stands ready to record elapsed time, while a small running seconds hand resides at 9 o’clock, maintaining perfect balance on the dial. One of the most striking design features of the C-08 is the pointer date indicator positioned beneath the 12 o’clock marker—a departure from the ordinary and a testament to PerpetuaL’s commitment to innovative design.

Adding to the watch’s charm, a moonphase indicator graces the 6 o’clock position, imparting a touch of celestial beauty to the ensemble. The overall design is elegant and classy, with the deep blue dial beautifully offset by the polished indices and hands.

Case and Strap

The C-08 features a sensible 41mm diameter case with a thickness of 13mm, making it an excellent choice for a dress watch. The case is fully polished and impeccably finished, showcasing PerpetuaL’s dedication to craftsmanship.

The strap lugs, measuring 20mm in width, seamlessly integrate with the case and allow for easy strap changes. The included deep oak brown leather strap is a highlight in itself—thick and of high quality, with sturdy stitching that signifies its craftsmanship. The standard tang buckle is highly polished to match the case, with the PerpetuaL logo discreetly engraved in the center of the top bar.

Screw-in strap pins with large feature screw heads on either side of the lugs ensure a secure fit and add a touch of robustness to the watch. With a weight of 93g, the C-08 exudes a sense of quality that’s instantly noticeable when worn.

Functionality and Features

The PerpetuaL Chronograph C-08 boasts a respectable 30 meters of water resistance, suitable for daily wear and protection against unexpected splashes. Its detailed push-pull onion-shaped crown, complete with the brand’s logo engraved at the end, is a delightful touch that demonstrates PerpetuaL’s commitment to detail.

The chronograph pushers are precise and reliable, allowing for precise timing without any fuss. An anti-reflective coating on the domed sapphire crystal provides excellent visibility and reduces glare, ensuring that the dial remains easy to read in various lighting conditions.

Behind the transparent caseback, the ST1908 movement reveals its intricate beauty. This hand-wound mechanical chronograph movement may garner mixed reviews for its accuracy and reliability. However, PerpetuaL Watches stands by its performance. Founder Alex reassures customers that, when properly checked, adjusted, and maintained, the ST1908 can be highly performant and durable. This movement features a manual-winding mechanism, a 2-register chronograph with a column wheel, operates at 21,600 beats per hour (BPH), boasts 22 jewels, and offers a generous 48-hour power reserve. While it may not be the most renowned caliber, its beauty and functionality shine through when set up correctly.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the PerpetuaL Chronograph C-08 upholds the brand’s tradition of delivering sensational build quality and meticulous attention to detail, all while remaining incredibly affordable. Concerns regarding the ST1908 movement may arise, but in my experience, I have never encountered any issues. Furthermore, PerpetuaL’s rigorous testing ensures that each watch performs at its best.

The C-08 offers a remarkable combination of elegance, functionality, and affordability. With its innovative design features, exquisite craftsmanship, and transparent caseback showcasing the ST1908 movement, this timepiece is a standout in its category. If you are seeking a mechanical chronograph that doesn’t break the bank, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better option than the PerpetuaL Chronograph C-08.

PerpetuaL Watches continues to prove that luxury and affordability can coexist in the world of horology, and the C-08 is yet another testament to their dedication to providing exceptional watches for watch enthusiasts of all backgrounds.

In 2021, Danish independent watchmaker Arcanaut released a 50-piece limited edition watch boasting a dial made from crushed Swedish slate. The release, the brand’s second, firmly established Arcanaut as a leader in the materials development space. For more than one and a half years since, the brand has been beavering away behind closed doors at its facilities in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Gothenburg, Sweden, working on a suitable follow-up. And now, as 2023 starts to wind down, the brand is ready to present its first novelty collection of the year.

If the vivid lume colours that decorate each one of the D’Arc Matter Colours Collection dials look familiar, that’s because you might have seen them before. One thing is for sure, however: you’ve never seen them in the watch industry. That’s because these colours (dubbed Badger Blue, Gamma Green, Hornet Yellow, and Pongo Orange) are the result of a long developmental process courtesy of James Thompson (AKA Black Badger) and Albert Zeller of RC Tritec (the purveyors of fine Swiss Super-LumiNova.

Thompson is known in the industry as something of a “lume godfather” and has made his name collaborating with brands such as MB&F, Hautlence, Schofield, Linde Werdelin, MW&Co., De Bethune, and others.

Due to his work on the D’Arc Matter material, Thompson joined the brand as a co-owner and now oversees the “Alchemy Division” from his workshop in Gothenburg. His primary task? To make something magnificent from the mundane.

Says the Badger himself, “I’ve always been a ‘shop’ guy. I like to spend a lot of time working on the materials directly. You might not believe it, but I barely draw. It’s not my thing. I sketch in the material in real-time and see what happens. It’s an approach you don’t find so often in watchmaking. Because everything needs to be extremely precise, people forget to experiment. They forget to have fun. They obsess over the details and never actually do anything new. At Arcanaut, we shove weird stuff through industrial coffee grinders and hope it doesn’t explode. Most of the time it doesn’t and every so often, we discover a material as beguiling and beautiful as the D’Arc Matter Composite.”

Since 2022, the task of developing the brand of Arcanaut on the international stage has been in the hands of Rob Nudds, who previously held positions in watchmaking, retail management, and journalism. His main task has been building out a core collection for the brand that will sustain it into the future.

When the opportunity to join Arcanaut in this capacity arose, I jumped at it,” says Nudds. “It was exactly the kind of brand I wanted to work with. I was a customer before I came on board and truly believed in the potential of the brand to become the leading light in Danish watchmaking and an ambassador for Scandinavian design in horology around the world.

There was already an established audience in place. My job was figuring out which models we needed to release and when. I couldn’t imagine being more enthusiastic about this first major release in 18 months and I am really excited for what the rest of 2023 has in store. I believe by the time 2024 rolls around, Arcanaut’s intentions for the future will be very clear and I can’t wait to see the reaction.”

There will only be 25 of each colour in 2023. Fifteen of each colour will be made available in the pre-sale (so existing sign-ups will be able to access 60% of the whole collection ahead of the general release). It is likely that these models will return in the future in one form or another, but quantities may vary from year to year as the brand looks to build out the catalog and diversify its product offering.

The pre-sale goes live on September 23rd, 2023, at 7 PM (19:00) CEST. The pre-sale will remain open until either all available models have been sold or until the pieces go on General Release, exactly one week later at 19:00 CEST on September 30th.

Sign-ups will be sent a secret link via which they will be able to put down a 50% deposit for their favourite model. The remaining balance will be due as soon as the watches are ready to be delivered. Delivery is expected to commence in January 2024.

Everyone participating in the pre-sale will receive an exclusive Arcanaut care package. The care package includes an Arcanaut Cap, an Arcanaut T-shirt, a Black Badger UV Torch, and a spare strap of the customer’s choice (value USD 150).

The first ten confirmed pre-sales (across all platforms including the brand’s US-based retailer Collective Horology) will also receive a custom-made, lume-filled “Clocktopus” signet ring in .925 Sterling Silver.

Everyone involved in the pre-sale, including the first customers, will be entered into a raffle to win a solid 18-karat gold version of the Clocktopus ring — a truly collectible item only made to celebrate new brand releases.

If you have any questions in advance of the pre-sale, please feel free to get in touch directly by emailing rob@arcanaut.dk.

Laco, a renowned horological name, continues its legacy of excellence with the introduction of the Atacama Quarz UTC. This timepiece is a seamless blend of technical innovation and functional design, capturing the hearts of both sports watch enthusiasts and adventurers. As the successor to the esteemed Atacama.2, the Atacama Quarz UTC builds on its foundation, offering a leaner, sturdier build, the accuracy of a quartz movement, and all at a more budget-friendly price. Notably, it incorporates a second time zone feature, a vital tool for individuals navigating across different time zones, especially for those in emergency response roles.

Drawing on the successful partnership with the German Armed Forces during the development of the Atacama.2, Laco has elevated its commitment to producing instruments of utmost reliability. Professionals across various fields, including law enforcement, fire departments, and the military, have attested to the dependability of the Atacama.2. Now, the Atacama Quarz UTC steps onto the scene, ready to deliver safety, resilience, and precision in even the most demanding scenarios.

The dial of the Atacama Quarz UTC comes to life with its luminescent elements. The Superluminova-coated hands, numerals, and indices ensure impeccable readability, whether under the blazing sun or the cover of night. The two-tone hands, with Superluminova C3 on the hour and second hands and striking orange on the minute hand, ensure optimal legibility from every angle, catering to the dynamic nature of its users’ lives.

One of the standout features of the Atacama Quarz UTC is its second time zone display. This enhancement is particularly useful for those individuals who need to juggle responsibilities across different parts of the world. The orange skeletonized arrowhead hand, accompanied by a corresponding 24-hour scale, serves as a constant reminder of time zones, making it an indispensable tool for globetrotters and professionals alike.

Diving into the details of the watch, the stainless-steel case of the Atacama Quarz UTC exhibits pressure resistance up to 20 ATM and is adorned with a black PVD coating, minimizing any unwanted reflections that might compromise visibility. The unidirectional rotating countdown bezel and the cleverly positioned crown at twelve o’clock embody Laco’s commitment to functional design. The crown, a critical component for water resistance, incorporates an orange ring as an indicator of its secure position, ensuring both safety and peace of mind.

Nestled within the robust case is the Swiss quartz movement Ronda 515.24H, a paragon of accuracy and efficiency. With minimal deviation per month and a GMT function for quick time zone adjustments, this movement guarantees impeccable precision. Adding to its utility, a white date window graces the dial at the six o’clock position, further enhancing legibility and functionality.

Despite the impressive technical features, Laco has managed to streamline the design. Thanks to the incorporation of the slim quartz movement, the case height measures a mere 10.5 millimeters. This innovation, coupled with a 46-millimeter diameter that offers a contact area of only 34 millimeters, ensures that the Atacama Quarz UTC fits comfortably even on narrower wrists. The durable yet comfortable rubber strap, secured by a PVD-coated stainless-steel buckle, remains unchanged. Additionally, the flexible lugs that connect the case to the strap adapt seamlessly to the wearer’s wrist, allowing for a snug fit.

Watch enthusiasts and aficionados can anticipate the Atacama Quarz UTC’s availability for presale through Laco’s official channels and authorised retailers starting from the end of August. The price point of €530 makes this timepiece an accessible yet exceptional choice. Delivery is scheduled to commence from mid-October, ushering in a new era of functional, precise, and purposeful horology.

The allure of owning a Rolex watch is undeniable, but securing a brand new one has become increasingly challenging. The scarcity of new Rolex timepieces, coupled with high demand and long waiting lists, has led many watch enthusiasts and collectors to explore alternative avenues—enter the preowned Rolex market. Purchasing a preowned Rolex offers a viable solution to own an authentic Rolex without enduring the frustration of waiting for a new one. However, buying a preowned Rolex necessitates careful consideration and a discerning eye to ensure that you get the most out of your investment. In this article, we’re going to go through some top tips on how to navigate the world of preowned Rolexes.

1. Research and Educate Yourself:

Before delving into the preowned Rolex market, invest time in researching different models, variations, and prices. For example, if you’re interested in a classic diver’s watch, like the Rolex Submariner, study its various references, bezel options, and dial variations. Familiarise yourself with the specs, features, and history of the specific Rolex model you are interested in. Understanding the market value and the different factors that affect a watch’s price will empower you to make a more informed decision. Websites like Chrono24, with their historical data, can be an invaluable resource for research and comparing prices.

2. Buy from Reputable Sellers:

One of the most critical aspects of buying a preowned Rolex is to purchase from a reputable and trustworthy source. Seek out authorized Rolex dealers or well-established watch dealers with a solid track record. For instance, if you’re eyeing a vintage Rolex Datejust, look for dealers with expertise in vintage timepieces and a reputation for authenticity. Chrono24, being a trusted platform, connects buyers with certified dealers and private sellers, providing a secure environment for purchasing preowned Rolex watches online.

3. Check for Authenticity:

Counterfeit Rolex watches flood the market, making authentication a crucial step in the purchasing process. Examine the watch’s details, including the dial, bezel, case, bracelet, and movement, for any signs of inconsistency or poor craftsmanship. Request the watch’s serial and reference numbers and have them authenticated by Rolex or an authorized service center. Chrono24’s Verified Dealer feature ensures that sellers have undergone thorough screening to provide authentic and genuine products.

4. Inspect Condition and Maintenance:

A preowned Rolex’s condition is a significant factor in its value and longevity. Look for signs of wear and tear, scratches, and dents on the case and bracelet. While some wear is expected, excessive damage may indicate poor maintenance. Ask for the watch’s service history and ensure that it has been regularly serviced by Rolex or a certified watchmaker. Chrono24 allows sellers to provide detailed images and descriptions, allowing you to assess a watch’s condition more effectively.

5. Bargain with Caution:

While negotiating for a better price is standard in the preowned market, be cautious when encountering deals that seem too good to be true. Unrealistically low prices might signal a counterfeit or a watch in poor condition. If the price is considerably lower than the average market value, ask questions and do thorough research before proceeding. Chrono24’s Price Trend feature can help you gauge a watch’s market value and identify any unusual price fluctuations. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is!

6. Focus on Popular Models:

Popular Rolex models tend to hold their value better over time, making them a safer investment. Timepieces like the Submariner, Datejust, and GMT-Master II are considered classics and are more likely to retain or increase in value. Lesser-known models may be more affordable upfront but may not offer the same long-term investment potential. On Chrono24, you can find a vast selection of popular Rolex models from various sellers worldwide, increasing your chances of finding the perfect preowned timepiece.

7. Verify Documentation:

A genuine preowned Rolex should come with its original box, papers, and warranty card. These documents provide essential information about the watch’s history, authenticity, and service history. Always request these documents and verify their authenticity. Chrono24’s reputable dealers typically include comprehensive documentation, offering you peace of mind in your purchase.

8. Size and Style Matters:

Consider your wrist size and personal style when choosing a preowned Rolex. Rolex offers a variety of case sizes and bracelet options, so try on different models to find one that fits comfortably and complements your style. Whether you opt for the elegance of a vintage Rolex Datejust or the sportiness of a Submariner, finding the right size and style that suits you is crucial for a satisfactory ownership experience.

9. Pay Attention to the Movement:

Rolex is known for its precision movements, and different models come with various movements. Research the specific movement of the watch you’re interested in and verify that it matches the stated specifications. For example, if you’re looking at a preowned Rolex Explorer II, ensure that the watch’s movement, whether it’s the older or the newer GMTs, meets your preferences.

10. Trust Your Instincts:

Lastly, trust your gut feeling. If something feels off about the deal or the watch itself, take a step back and reevaluate your decision. Don’t rush into a purchase that doesn’t feel right. Remember, a preowned Rolex is an investment, and finding the perfect one for you might require patience and careful consideration.

11. Bonus tip: Decide on the Worth:

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide if the higher price of a preowned Rolex, compared to a new one, is worth it. Consider factors like availability, demand, condition, and the watch’s history. While purchasing a preowned Rolex can offer immediate gratification, it also represents an opportunity to own a piece of horological history that has already stood the test of time.

In conclusion, purchasing a preowned Rolex can be a rewarding experience for watch enthusiasts and collectors alike. By applying these top tips, such as researching models like the Submariner, Datejust, GMT-Master II, and Oyster Perpetual, buying from reputable sellers like those found on Chrono24, verifying authenticity, and inspecting the condition, you can confidently find a beautiful and authentic Rolex timepiece that suits your style and budget. And remember, a preowned Rolex can become a cherished piece of horological history to be enjoyed for generations to come.

The dust has now settled surrounding the latest iteration of the WatchIt! Watch Fair.

It’s been over 3 and a half years since the inaugural WatchIt! event, and to be completely honest, we didn’t know what to expect. Would we have enough brands say yes to joining us? Would enough people turn up? Would the location be suitable?

Despite these concerns, we decided that a watch-centric event in the early part of the year in the Midlands was going to happen. We had heard so many watch fans (us included) say that London is a pain to get to, and that there just aren’t enough watch events in the UK in general either.

What a day it turned out to be! Over 400 guests joined 21 British brands and companies to make it a tremendous success. The general atmosphere was brilliant, and the hustle and bustle was a joy to behold as a nervous event organiser.

But, don’t let me do all the talking, here’s some feedback we received from the visitors:

Superb event bringing together watch fans and brand owners together for a fun time. Looking forward to the next event!

A great show that gives watch enthusiasts the chance to see and handle micro brands that are usually available online.

Great, personal event allowing easy interaction with the watches and the people behind them, looking forward to the next one.

A great event and one I will attend again. It was super to be able to see items in the flesh and try on watches as well as talk with designers.

This was the first Watch Fair I have attended. The atmosphere was friendly, the welcome was warm and the vendors were willing to talk without being stand-offish. I’m looking forward to the next and already saving for that future purchase.

Great event. Spent a fantastic morning discovering new watches and meeting the passionate people at the forefront of British watchmaking.

The Watchit Watch Fair was my first watch fair and I found it fascinating. The chance to speak to manufacturers, dealers and accessory suppliers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere was great. Also meeting and chatting with people from different watch group communities made the whole experience very enjoyable. Would thoroughly recommend, can’t wait for the next one.

How about the exhibitors? What did they have to say?

Watchit! Watch Fair 2023 was a perfect event with the perfect crowd. The best possible way to kick off the year.

This was my first time exhibiting, and it was a really positive experience – meeting lots of really enthusiastic visitors and chatting to other watch brands

At last a proper travelling table top event, that is more concerned with the product (watch exhibitors) than the wrapping. Well done Josh and team.

WatchIt! was one of the most engaging watch events we have been to. A fantastic mix of brands, enthusiastic guests and all perfectly organised by Josh & James. I can’t wait for the next one.

A great show that we can’t wait to do again!

We are absolutely over the moon with the overall feedback received! Now, the event wasn’t without fault. This was only our second watch event after all, and we are not professional event organisers. The main feedback for improvement was the parking (the hotel had 200 spaces, and in our naivety we thought this would be enough), and it being a little bit cramped around the stalls. We obviously didn’t quite prepare ourselves for the success of the event, nor how busy it got!

Therefore, our main takeaways are:

  1. People want more watch events in the UK. So we will give it to them!
  2. We will use a proper conference centre next time, instead of a hotel
  3. The overall friendly non-snobbish atmosphere went down really well
  4. Smaller, British brands are hugely popular and people want to see them in the metal

Myself and James are investigating if we can arrange another event towards the end of the year. However, that time tends to be quite busy already with other watch events – so watch this space!

To all those who attended, we are incredibly grateful to you (some travelled hours!) for coming along and making it the success it was.

See you at the next one!

It was three and a half years ago when the inaugural WatchIt! Watch Fair took place. Hundreds of watch enthusiasts joined 12 brands in a hotel just off the M1 at Rugby. As it was my first event, I wanted to keep it small, and knew immediately that this was going to be even better the next time.

The second was quickly arranged, and 30 brands signed up. It was going to be epic. But, as I’m sure you are well aware, Covid hit. Three years went by. And now, I am extremely excited that we are finally a matter of weeks away from the follow up event!

We have over British 20 brands joining us in a stunning hotel and country house near Birmingham, many of which are big hitters in the watch world.

The goal is always to have a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where people can just chat and have a nice time with other watch enthusiasts. We want an event in the Midlands, as so many are in London or far North and we’re a bit left out in the middle.

We are confident the event will be a huge success, and we can’t wait to see many of you there!
